His research has been a fantastic hit-or-miss ordeal. When I first looked for proof of immigration, I instead found and followed a false lead online that would have put him in Upstate New York for his whole life. On learning from my grandfather (Waldislaw's grandson) that wasn't true, I looked again, and found much better information than a census and a newspaper clipping.
Ta-da! His naturalization papers and draft card. The birthdate, address, and his wife's name all match best with the information I started with (from familysearch and oral tradition). I haven't been able to quite confirm it yet, but...
